Jesus Is the Main Character

We often live as though we are the main characters of our own stories—as if everything revolves around our dreams, struggles, and plans. But the true center of God’s story is not us. It is Jesus Christ.

The Father gave a people to His Son, and the Son came to redeem them. At the same time, God gave His Son for the salvation of the world. Therefore, salvation is not primarily about our worthiness, but about Christ’s worthiness and God’s grace.

Jesus alone is perfectly righteous. He is the only person who ever lived without sin—the spotless Lamb of God. He completely obeyed the will of His Father, even when that obedience led to suffering and death on the cross. He humbled Himself and became obedient unto death so that sinners might be forgiven and reconciled to God.

The cross was not an accident or a defeat. According to God’s saving purpose, Jesus bore the penalty for our sins. God did this because He loves us and desires to rescue us—not only from sin’s power, but also from the righteous judgment that is to come.

God’s love does not cancel His justice. Because He is just, sin must be judged. Because He is loving, He provided the perfect sacrifice: His own Son. At the cross, God’s justice and mercy meet. Jesus received the judgment sinners deserved so that all who trust in Him might receive forgiveness, righteousness, and eternal life.

We are not the heroes of the story. Jesus is. We do not save ourselves; He saves us. Our lives find their true meaning when we stop placing ourselves at the center and begin living for the glory of the One who loved us, gave Himself for us, and is worthy of all honor and praise.
